How Can We Learn Focus from Werewolves?

I love diverse perspectives and I strongly believe that they help you see things differently. Sometimes, you have to, literally, put yourself in someone else’s shoes to understand their point of view. If you have made it this far into the reading, thank you for your interest and focus.

Speaking of focus, what perspective do you have on that? How do you keep your focus on a topic or task? Hold on to your perspective; I’d like to invite you to explore a different perspective with me: the werewolves’ perspective. Yes, you read it right, werewolves’.

The pull of a full moon on werewolves is extremely intense and causes them to physically shift into a wolf. At least, that’s how the story goes on TV. However, with practice, some can control themselves and keep their human shape. What allows them to do that is focus. Once they are on a single emotional memory, they can connect with their human perspective, enabling them to control themselves.

We all have this werewolf within us. We are not shifting physically like you see on TV; however, our actions, reactions, and interactions reflect that. On a very busy day where nothing seems to go right and you have to meet certain deadlines, I’m sure you let your werewolf out to attack your family, friends, or colleagues. Or even all of them. So what do you do to help yourself stay focused on what matters to you most? Here is my perspective:

  1. Find a focal point that has an emotional value to you
  2. Keep this focal point near you for easy access
  3. Channel all your energy to be with this focal pointin the way that works best for you
  4. As you encounter a stressful situation, stay focused on your focal point
  5. Give yourself a deep breath and let out slowly; repeat until you feel fully focused
  6. Tame your werewolf and don’t let that side of you be the last thing people get from you

I know it may be easier said than done. For this reason, this is a process and it takes time. The werewolves take some time and deliberate practice before reaching the end goal. The practice is more effective when you are deliberate and intentional about it.

If the werewolves can succeed in focusing and taming the wolf within them, I’m sure you can too. What is your perspective on focus? I’d love to hear from you.
